POR-15 FUEL TANK REPAIR KIT

Please read and follow all instructions carefully to insure proper results.

Tank Strip (Por-Strip)

If your fuel tank has been previously repaired or coated in the past and that sealer is now failing, it must be removed before proceeding.  This should be done using Tank Strip, as found in our Heavy Duty Repair Kit or available separately from your POR-15 dealer.  Follow all instructions when using Tank Strip and avoid breathing vapors.

Tank Clean (Marine Clean)

Tank Clean is a powerful cleaner that will break down and remove gum and varnish deposits in your fuel tank.  Close fuel valves and block all lines before proceeding, Tank Clean should be diluted 1:1 with very hot water and poured into the fuel tank.  Agitate frequently and keep solution in tank at least 24 hours.  Repeat procedure as necessary until tank rinses clean.  Flush thoroughly with fresh water before proceeding.

Tank Prep (Metal-Ready)

Tank Prep is an excellent metal prep that will dissolve and remove any rust or scale that has formed in your tank leaving a coating of zinc phosphate, an ideal surface for your tank sealer to adhere to.  Tank Prep works best at temperatures above 70 degrees farenheight.  Pour entire contents of can into tank and keep interior of tank wet with constant agitation for at least 30 minutes.  Extremely rusted tanks may require more time.  Inspect tank every 30 minutes, and when all rust is dissolved, pour Tank Prep back into original container.  It may be re-used.  Flush tank thoroughly with clear water.

Tank Seal (U.S. Standard Fuel Tank Sealer)

Tank Seal will resist all fuels, including alcohol.  It is very important that the interior of your fuel tank be absolutely bone dry before applying Tank Seal.  The use of a hair dryer or heat gun for an extended period of time is recommended to ensure tank is dry.  Direct the air into the opening of the tank and let air circulate through a second opening.  Placing the tank in direct sunlight or in a warm place will not guarantee a dry tank.  The tank needs moving air to remove all moisture.  If any moisture is present the tank sealer will not work properly.  Remove all valves and cover holes with duct tape.  Tank Sealer will block any small pipes or threads if allowed to dry in them.  Pour contents of can into tank and slowly rotate tank back and forth and side to side to allow entire surface of tank to be coated.  Place tank in a position to allow all excess sealer to drain from tank.  If necessary, use a brush to apply an even coating of tank sealer I n the filler neck area.  Avoid letting sealer puddle in tank.  Allow to dry overnight and reinstall.  Allow 72 – 96 hours before filling with fuel.

Patching Large Holes or Seams

Remove all paint around area to be patched.  Soak area with Tank Prep and keep wet for 30 minutes.  Wash with water and allow to dry.  Paint a thin coat of Tank Sealer on area and apply cloth patch.  Apply an even coat of Tank Sealer on top of patch.  When dry but still tacking, apply another coat.  Allow to cure 96 hours.
