Fire
Seal 2000
Fire Seal
2000 is a single component ceramic and stainless steel filled putty that will
withstand temperatures up to 2000 degrees. It can be used to repair cracks or
pitted surfaces on rough surfaced or sand blasted steel, stainless steel, or
cast iron. It is ideal for exhaust manifolds and headers, boilers, cooking
grills and turbo chargers or anywhere extreme heat is present.
Remove loose
rust with a stiff wire brush or sanding tool. Sandblasting is highly recommended
for best results. Relieve stress in cracked castings by v-grooving the crack and
drilling 1/8-inch holes at each end of crack. Remove any dirt or oil with
lacquer thinner or Por-15 Solvent. Burn off residue with propane torch or
equivalent to improve adhesion and prevent any moisture of oil left in the metal
from causing Fire Seal 2000 from blistering.
Application
Mix contents
by thoroughly kneading the pouch. Cut corner of pouch and spread contents evenly
with a putty knife. Seal pouch to preserve remaining material. For pits, cracks
or small holes a maximum thickness of 3/8 of an inch per application is
recommended. Fully cure Fire Seal 2000 between applications. For holes larger
than 3/8 of an inch a metal screen should be used. First apply a coating of
sealer, then form and clamp the screen to the part. Apply a second coat to cover
the screen.
Air dry at
room temperature for 18-24 hours or up to 48 hours in humid conditions. Idle
engine or gradually heat repair for 10-15 minutes to fully cure. If bubbling
occurs after curing, Fire Seal 2000 was cured to fast or the surface was not
properly cleaned and dried. Correct this by allowing the surface to cool and
then scrape of the blistered material and then re-prepping the area that
bubbled.
